The Apex Center for Entrepreneurs received the Outstanding Emerging Entrepreneurship Center Award, and Paul Benjamin Lowry was awarded the 2018 Operational Research Society’s Stafford Beer Medal.

An internationally recognized scholar, Lowry has been identified as the world’s No. 1 information systems scholar, based on publications over the past five years in the field's top six journals.

The Pamplin College of Business welcomes some exceptional incoming administrative staff members, including Pamplin's first director of diversity and inclusion, the director of development, and two associate directors of major gifts.

Dilip Kumar Shome, professor emeritus of finance, died Dec. 7, 2018. Shome joined Virginia Tech in 1983. Edward R. (Ed) Clayton, professor emeritus of business information technology, died Feb. 10, 2019. Clayton joined Virginia Tech in 1968.

Six Pamplin students have received awards: Outstanding Senior, H.H. Mitchell Outstanding Leadership, College Service, Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award, Doctoral Student Research Award, and Doctoral Student Research Award (Honorable Mention).

Many faculty members received college awards, including the Career Award for Excellence in Research, the Excellence in International Programs, the International Outreach Excellence, the Outstanding Faculty in Doctoral Excellence, and the College Certificate of Excellence.

Six alumni and one company were honored with the 2018 Pamplin Society Awards - Rising Alumni, Mentoring, Ut Prosim and Corporate Ambassador awards from the Pamplin College of Business.
