hosted the networking event.

Virginia Tech alumnae as well as Laura Sands, wife of Virginia Tech president Tim Sands and a professor in the Center for Gerontology, and Deborah Petrine, rector of the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors, showed up to network at Pamplin’s fifth annual Women in Business event in New York in September.

The event was hosted by finance alumna Tracy Castle–Newman (FIN ’90), Morgan Stanley’s managing director and global chief operating officer for equity distribution, at the firm’s offices.

Sharing their career experiences at the event, titled Women, Words, Wisdom, and Work, were Castle–Newman, TV marketing professional Jodi Arden, tobacco executive Jen Campbell, employment lawyer Chandra Davis, and advertising strategist Lauren Prociv (MKTG ’10; M.S., MKTG ’12).

Pamplin alumni relations director Bonnie Gilbert said the event has attracted a growing number of attendees, who have ranged from women who are current marketing students at Pamplin and new college graduates to those facing retirement. It is one of our best networking events.

Castle–Newman’s responsibilities at Morgan Stanley include client strategy, commission management, and product marketing and issuer strategy of exchange–traded funds. She serves on the finance department’s advisory board.

Arden, a graduate of Emory University and the University of Georgia, is brand marketing and promotions director for USA Networks, where she oversees the development and execution of consumer promotions, strategic partnerships, and branded events.

Campbell, a Princeton University graduate, is vice president for consumer engagement and marketing services at Altria Group. Before joining the company, she was a consultant for her own company and worked at an interactive agency in New York City.

Davis, also a graduate of Emory and Georgia, as well as the University of Michigan law school, has more than 10 years of employment law experience. Her firm, McFadden, White, Sprattlin, and Davis, is the country’s only employment law defense firm owned by minority and women.

Prociv, a strategic planner at The Martin Agency, studies user experience and uses analytics to create ads, select media, and identify business opportunities for clients. She has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in marketing from Pamplin and is a founding member and co–advisor of PRISM, the student group that manages Pamplin’s social media channels.
